The mission of smart cities in Rajasthan is to develop towns and cities while preserving their distinct historical and economic characteristics. This phase of change is characterised by a concerted effort to enhance critical infrastructure and people’s quality of life.
Launched on 25 June, 2015, the Smart Cities Mission aimed at selecting and establishing 100 cities to provide clean, healthy and sustainable living environments to their citizens. The mission also focuses on providing smart infrastructure through technology. Among all the states, Rajasthan took the lead by having four cities—Jaipur, Udaipur, Ajmer and Kota—approved in two rounds of evaluation.
Special-purpose Vehicle (SPV) committees have been appointed throughout Rajasthan. SPVs play a key role in ensuring timely and successful execution of all the smart city plans. In addition to obtaining funding from diverse sources, SPVs will authorise, sanction, and carry out the projects.
