The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a revised Master Circular pertaining to the prudential norms on capital adequacy for Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks (UCBs). This circular, dated April 1, 2025, is directed towards all UCBs and serves to consolidate and update all existing instructions and guidelines on this subject. It aims to provide UCBs with a comprehensive and up-to-date reference document for their capital adequacy requirements. The circular supersedes the previous Master Circular issued on April 1, 2024, ensuring that UCBs are aligned with the latest regulatory framework.
The key purpose of this Master Circular is to compile all relevant instructions and guidelines issued by the RBI up to March 31, 2025, into a single document. It does not introduce any new regulations or policy changes. The appendix included with the circular lists all the instructions that have been consolidated, allowing UCBs to easily trace the source of each guideline. By consolidating these norms, the RBI aims to streamline the regulatory landscape for UCBs, facilitating better compliance and ensuring the stability of the urban cooperative banking sector. This action reflects the RBI’s ongoing effort to provide clarity and consistency in its regulatory directives.
